Why revisit a city?

When there are so many new places to explore, why return to a place you've been before?

I'm specifically thinking of Barcelona and Paris, both of which we spent time in on this holiday, having previously stayed there.

1) It's good to see some familiar landmarks
Especially when you're in a country that speaks a different language to your own, there is something to be said for that feeling of familiarity. In Paris for example, you get it the moment you glimpse the Eiffel Tower...

2) You can share places that others haven't visited
In Barcelona, I insisted that we visited Parc Guell - a place A hadn't been before. I knew he'd love it (as well as looking forward to seeing it again myself) and it was lovely to share it with him...

3) There's always more to explore
Most cities would take months to explore properly. This time in Paris we hiked up the hill to Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, which is an amazing structure. And we even climbed up to the dome at the top, giving amazing views of the city...

4) You know you can always come back
I will return again. It might not be for a few years, but I'll be back!

Which places do you return to? What is it about them that makes them so special?

I love to go back to some large American and Canadian cities I have visited before... haven't had the opportunity to revisit and Eurpean cities yet... so many new ones there for me to see yet!
