Sightseeing the fun way

If you're ever visiting London (and you like skating) I seriously recommend joining the lfns (London Friday Night Skaters) on one of their jaunts around the city. Contrary to their name, they actually run up to three organised and marshalled skates a week, with varied routes. I've been about four times now and have skated over to the new Olympic Stadium, past the corner of Leicester Square and all sorts of other exciting places.

This Sunday was brilliant - it's the first time I've been in a while and the sun was shining for the first time in about a month!

Well before the 2pm start, we arrived at Hyde Park, strapped on our skates and had a pootle up and down...

We even had a cheeky ice cream (yes, I probably should have waited until after I'd exercised, but the sun was shining!).

Then everyone gathered together, the chief marshall of the day gave a quick safety briefing, and we were off!

It was pretty cool because we skated past Buckingham Palace...

...down the Mall, past Westminster Cathedral (apologies for the slightly dodgy photo - most of these were taken whilst on the move!)...

 ...over Westminster Bridge...

...back over Southwark Bridge...

...and off through leafy Chelsea. Here's the map of the planned route (I think it varied slightly on the day, but can't be sure):

The marshalls organise this event soooo well - it's fab to skate down the road, past famous landmarks, with hardly a care in the world :)
